Thanks to our talented graphic artist, Thomas Eifler of Berlin, we are once again able to offer a beautiful issue, Mirror 140, that begins from the cover, which depicts the earth element, lam, painted by the Dynamic Elements Artists (DEA) group that uses traditional thanka colors made with natural pigments, gold leaf and real gems. We feature a story about these artists on page 39.
Then the issue moves on to feature Tibetan Medicine, starting with a Teaching from Chögyal Namkhai Norbu called ‘Man, Medicine and Society’, a talk given in 1983 at the two-week First International Conference on Tibetan Medicine held in Venice and Arcidosso, and on to two talks, one given by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and the other by Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo, given at Losar 2018, on the value of Tibetan Medicine in the West.
There are important updates from the IDC, the newly established International Atiyoga Foundation, and Shang Shung Foundation Ka-Ter Translation Project, other news regarding new publications from the very active Shang Shung Publishing House, news and activities from the various international Shang Shung Institutes, reports on the news and activities from international Gars and Lings, an invitation to the inauguration of phase one of the fantastic new Gönpa on Rinpoche’s 80th birthday at Dzamling Gar in December, a wonderful article that is an excerpt from The Luminous Necklace of Pearls, a paper by Iacobella Gaetani contained in Garuda Verlag’s 2016 publication Sharro, Festschrift for Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, about the life and poetry of Rinpoche’s dynamic and courageous sister ‘Jam-dbyangs Chos-sgron, two fascinating reviews of the work of two special artists in our Community, poet Louise Landes-Levi and filmmaker Jennifer Fox, a transcription of a talk by Santi Maha Sangha instructor Igor Berkhin, James Fox as the Community Artist and finally a How I Met Chögyal Namkhai Norbu story from Yatzek Mahovsky.
We hope you enjoy the issue!
