Courses for advanced students

The training for translators from Tibetan is an initiative of the Shang Shung Institute Austria that first started in 2003. In 2014 we will hold already the 12th training.

Join us and learn to translate ancient texts from the Tibetan tradition. If you are already skilled you can deepen your knowledge, discuss techniques, compare with others, and train your ability in a collaborative environment inspired by the ancient practice of translating in groups. As students have different abilities and experiences, the training will be divided into two levels – the Intermediate and the Advanced Level.
Both levels will be held at the same time-period.
Here the information for the Advanced Level:
Advanced students will translate in groups with the instructor and focus on all aspects of the language as well as on theories and techniques of translating. They will read and translate without any advance preparation. The text will be more complex both grammatically and in terms of content. The goal is to produce publication-ready translations.
Planned schedule:
Advanced students may work whenever they like and the work will be checked from 09.30-12.00 am and from 02.00-04.00 pm.
Please note that according to circumstances times could be extended a little.
