Welcome to Shangpa Karma Ling, Domain d’Avalon

Welcome to Shangpa Karma Ling, Domain d’Avalon, a beautiful sacred eco site in the midst of a huge pine forest in the French Alps not far from Geneva. It is the mother place of the Rimay community founded by Shangpa Master Denys some forty years ago.

Shangpa Master Denys and Chögyal Namkhai Norbu

For more than 20 years, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu has come many times to Shangpa Karma Ling to teach and, in the Damdrog or sacred alliance that unite them, Shangpa Master Denys has come several times to teach at Merigar and Dzamling Gar in Tenerife, where he lives half of the year.

Om a Hum Dzogchen retreat August 2017

The Rimay Community and the Dzogchen Community have cooperated in different ways for a long time. In 2017 at Shangpa Karma Ling there were three Ku Nye courses with Aldo Oneto, the last was the eleventh Ku Nye cycle at SKL. There was a Yantra Yoga course with Nicholas Brenon. In 2017 there were two courses of Vajra Dance for the Benefits of All Beings, and three courses of Dance of Om A Hum. One of them was dedicated to the students following the Dzogchen Nyingthig retreat with Shangpa Master Denys. We also did one presentation of Om Ah Hum at a congress of contemplative psychology.

As you may know a criminal fire destroyed the entire charterhouse on the first of December, 2017. The whole huge building looked like a Tibetan monastery, with several temples, the great Tibetan, French and English library, the Vajra Dance temple, offices, study places, apartments, kitchen… all burnt.

Shangpa Karma Ling’s Gakyil members plan to courageously rebuild it and it is possible to help them with a donation, or with your time when necessary – https://admin.rimay.net/Faire-un-don-en-ligne.html.

As Shangpa Master Denys said, “It is a great teaching on impermanence and non attachment but the heart of the transmission, study and practice, remains intact and programs will resume as soon as possible”.

Thankfully all the other buildings remained totally intact: the Wisdom House that looks like the Gönpa at Merigar, the retreat centres for short and long retreats, including the Losum Chosum three year retreat, the dark cabins and the many lodging chalets.

We express gratitude for this beautiful place where so many Masters have come including two visits by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. We hope that courses will continue to manifest soon, welcoming our Sangha community for teachings, practices, personal retreat, dark retreat and all courses.
