The President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, has conferred an important honor on Prof. Namkhai Norbu on the proposal of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers: Commander Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
The President of the Italian Republic is, in fact, the head of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the highest of the Republic’s orders, created with the aim of “rewarding merits acquired towards the Nation in the field of letters, the arts, the economy and in commitment to public office and activities carried out for social, philanthropic and humanitarian purposes, as well as for long and distinguished service in civil and military careers”.
According to the regulations no one can be awarded, for the first time, an honor higher than that of Cavaliere (Knight), with exceptions in some particular situations. Professor and Master Namkhai Norbu has been recognized for the exceptional nature of his commitment and contribution to the whole of society, and has been given the title of Commendatore (Commander).
The official conferment will take place on Monday 10 September. The Prefect of Grosseto, in the name of the President of the Republic, will deliver the honor in the presence of the major authorities of the Amiata area. The ceremony is reserved for institutional guests.
